I had a 746 (non-Pro) for several years and really enjoyed the radio. Fine receiver, good ergonomics, and sufficient number of filter slots for a radio in its class. The DSP was/is fairly decent as well.
The FT-920 seems to get some good press and it appears that owners are rather pleased with these rigs as well. However, I recall a QST review where the 920 did suffer from blowby. Several hams have stated the addition of INRAD filters improved the receiver. Further, the INRAD dual filter boards made a significant difference, but added considerable cost to the radio.
Only caution I would have with the 746 includes (a) some units had problems with the display, and (b) there has been a long discussion of transmit failures with the PRO version, and not sure if it applies to the non-Pro as well.
