I had to change PLL trimmer capacitors in my 765. Otherwise - no problems.
Installed roofing filter, PBT mode and CW tracking mode and it sounds great
in contests. It is now my standard for comparison with other transceivers. I
recently had here FT2000 and it is much weaker RX then 765. Then A\B
compared 765 with K2 and it was difficult to figure which one is better.
I usually put two radios on 160m in the contest and listen to DX using the
same antenna.

: The Icom 765 still looks like a great rig from a
: performance standpoint, but it is now getting to be 12
: to 17 years old or so. Are they any common age
: related problems that show up with the 765 that one
: needs to look for when buying one-or things that you
: would need to plan on having serviced shortly after a
: purchase?
