Thats because he was probably from this countr's greatest generation born around the 1920's and they
remember there fathers suffering through the depression and they had too work hard and study for school
too. They remember what its like when jobs and money were scarce. Most of the baby boomers of today are
maxed out in debt and if they miss one paycheck its a trip to the bankruptcy attorney. I only buy high end
radios and have one of the largest collections of radio equipment around. Im not looking for a cheap deal
like a 718. My last purchase was a Harris AN/PRC-117F and it cost more than the average new truck. My
thinking is/ was on this subject is that Icom is now fixing to start charging $5-$6,000.00 for there
replacement of the ProIII when that day comes. 73 , de Randy N5WV PS. My wife says that Im nothing but an
old tightwad. I dont believe her but this morning when I was walking out to get the paper I started
hearing some type of squeaking noise ? When I stop walking it stops , When I start again it starts ?
Squeak Squeak Squeak ,,,,,, Beter close this one now Dick !!!

 My .05 cents

At one time for 5 years I owned a Ham/Communication store. We found that
on the average a ham is the most cheap/tightwad on the
Face of the earth. They would come in and ask all the questions
Then would buy mail-order just to save the sales tax. Then would bring
it back to us if something was wrong with the rig.

We now buy what we want and still gripe about it.

My 2 cents:
In 1980 I purchased the complete Drake TR-7/DR7 line on the employee
purchase program and it still set me back over $3000.00. Today, you can
buy
the IC-756Pro III and a very nice amp for the equivalent currency. My
Collins gear would amount to tens of thousands of dollars at today
prices if
it was "state of the art" due to inflation alone. Given these examples
I
feel that current market pricing is fair, and many hams today make high
5
figure and up salaries and can thus more easily afford these rigs.

Very open to comment and criticism, just remember this is just an
opinion.
