My 2 cents:
In 1980 I purchased the complete Drake TR-7/DR7 line on the employee
purchase program and it still set me back over $3000.00.  Today, you can buy
the IC-756Pro III and a very nice amp for the equivalent currency.  My
Collins gear would amount to tens of thousands of dollars at today prices if
it was "state of the art" due to inflation alone.   Given these examples I
feel that current market pricing is fair, and many hams today make high 5
figure and up salaries and can thus more easily afford these rigs.
