Interestingly, there seems to be no other problem.  Switching supplies are
notoriously noisy and you're probable right that ventilation would make
things worse.  At best, it is a poor design, but it is what it is.

I noticed the same thing when I opened a failed PS35 on my 751A. I think
it's because the supply is imperfectly sealed and traps moisture. It would
probably be better if these supplies were vented... But then RF hash might
be an issue.
