Morning Brian.
You are talking about the IC-706 MK-I. It does 160-10, plus 6 and 2 all
mode. 2m is only 10 watts. The only real advantage the FT-100 has over the
706 series is the noise blanker. Everything else (IMHO) goes to the 706.
That's why they sell so good, and you hear hundreds on the air daily.
I keep a 706 mk-1, an AH-3, and a 35 ft fiberglass vertical in my bug-out
kit. Great little radio for quick deployment.
