Mike,

I have a 706 II G.  I also am AF MARS and have done the Icom "Out of Band" 
modification.  That mod will first turn off the out-of-band beep when you 
tune above or below a band edge.  Second, and in answer to your question, 
the mod opens the radio on 60 meters.  I have no knowledge of how the 706 
sounds on that band.  Maybe a note to Icom tech support could help.
