[ICOM] IC-R2 cloning

Hello all,
    I figured others have encountered my problem, I'd see what was going
on.  I have a IC-R2 that I'm wanting to reprogram, but don't want to have
to enter everything manually into the radio.   I have some freeware
cloning software writen by Vlaski, Vol 1.01 Rel 04.02.99.   It worked for
me flawlessly when I got it 8 years ago, but machines were much slower
back then.   I can read the R2 alright, but at about 12 per cent on
upload, it goes into Cloning Error on the receiver.   Apparently there is
no flow control, because once that happens, I can turn the radio off, or
about anything else, and the software merrily continues to upload
nowhere.  I've tried 2 laptops, an older 1 ghz processor, and a newer 2.3
g dual core, and neither work.
   What is available that works well with the IC-R2 under Windows XP?
