Subject: [ICOM] Icom 746 Pro questions

Hello all:
I have many questions about the receiver on the Icom 746 Pro. Is
the Icom 746 Pro receiver similar to the 756 Pro 2 on HF?

[Yes. http://www.ab4oj.com/icom/ic746pro/756p2_746p.html ]

Is the 746 Pro receiver as good as the Icom 275H on 2 meters? Is the 746
Pro receiver section as good as the Icom 575H on 6 meters?

[Better. The IC-746Pro is DSP-based, whilst the IC-575H is analogue. The
746Pro also has a cleaner synthesiser.]

Has the IC 151 problem been solved?

[Yes, since S/N 033XX].

Has the display backlight problem on the 746 Pro been solved?

[Yes, to my knowledge. It affected the 746, but not the 746Pro.]

Are there no filters to add on the 746 Pro?

[Absolutely not. That is the beauty of IF-DSP.]

Does the 746 Pro have an LCD display versus the 756 Pro 3 having a TFT
display?

[Yes. The 756Pro3 also has a real-time spectrum scope with 1 kHz RBW; the
746Pro has a rudimentary band-scope which "steals" the main receiver.]

I am considering the 746 Pro but need to know how well the receiver works on
6m and 2m. Not sure I like the display on the 746 Pro, needs some color.
Thank you for any comments.

[The 746Pro is probably the best value if you require 2m, and can manage
without the spectrum scope. The IC-7000 is a good alternative.]
