[ICOM] Power Supply

Hi Don,
A word of caution: When using a series-pass-type PSU as a float charger, a
diode rated at the maximum inrush current (40A or higher) should be inserted
in the (+) lead between the PSU and the battery. The radio can then be fed
off the battery. The diode will prevent the battery's back EMF from driving
the pass transistors above their maximum base-emitter voltage rating.
If desired, the voltage-sensing lead of the PSU can be connected to the load
side of the diode to include the diode's forward voltage in the
voltage-regulation loop.
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

The PS55 was for the IC735. It takes a 20 amp intermittent power source. If
you have a deep discharge battery and use the PS15 to keep it charged, the
extra power will come from the battery. I hope you like the 735. I have 2
and like mine. No extra frills, just good operating rigs. If you notice
FMing on received signals it indicates the small plastic caps in the VCO
need replaced with new ceramic caps. I still need to order some from Mouser
for mine.
Healthfully yours,
