[ICOM] IC706MK2g gets hot on xmit and audio distorts

Howard,
The heat issue related to the 706 is real.
My 706 is in the trunk.
To keep it cool, I mounted a 3" 12 VDC fan an inch or so from the heat sink.
The rear ACC connector, pin 8 has DC output when the radio is on.
Even though the maximum output current from pin 8 is 1 A, I played it safe
and used this voltage through a large resistor to turn ON a MOSFET. The
MOSFET is the switch that turns the fan ON directly from the raw 12 VDC.
It worked very well to keep the radio cool.
Note that there is a great variety of cooling fans and the air flow. I
selected
a fan with high air flow. These fans are nosier, but having it in the trunk
it did
not make any difference.
