John,
Out of the 3 - 706 versions I do not remember much trouble like you are
reporting. Good idea to have a look at the connectors, those ribbons
have been known to sometimes work their way out. The rig is not smart
enough to know there is not a filter installed, in the event the filter
itself was open and not allowing the setting to be enabled.
