[-] [ICOM] computer control

Comment WELL Taken Vladimir,

I DID indeed miss-Speak when I stated there was no such thing as CI-V
Protocol IF and only if you use that term to mean what SERIAL Message Format
the ICOM Radios understand in that sense you are correct. The Serial
Message "Packet" if you will defines the message format the ICOM Radios are
looking for and/or understanding .... In that sense I guess you could call
it a Protocol however where I come from Protocol is a level below that ....
now what massage format is transferred in a serial protocol is a level above
protocol definition ... if you catch my drift ....

Anyway, thanks for the response and I hope we can kinda see eye to eye on
this ..... I've got Nine ICOM Radios talking on a serial link (all with
unique addresses of course, even thought some are the same model radio) and
it all works A-Okay.

Just for Grins, I'll throw in that I'm a retired communications controller
call sign (INCO) from N.A.S.A. Johnson Space Center .....

Have a good Day My Friend and GUD DX

Brad,

The what you say sounds logic. My statement was based just on things I have
heard numerous times and I cannot even recap the initial source. Though the
Icom's CT-17 interface allows up to 4 radios to be connected to.
My personal experience extends to 3 ones simultaneously, max, paricularily
IC-756(xxx), IC-775DSP and IC-PW1.

I tend to agree with you regarding the approach to the way Icom radios are
controlled, and I might be wrong with statements, but a Google look-up for
the "CI-V protocol" returned with approx. 350'000 links.

In any case, the answer to the Kelly's initial question is positive for
sure.

73,

Vladimir VE3IAE
