Hi Randy,

The fixed HF services use pairs of receivers with baseband diversity
combiners and separate antennas for polarisation and space diversity. The
only instance I know of where transmitters are grouped is the use of
multiple IPA/HPA chains, with a common exciter and an output combiner, in
cases where more output power is required than can be achieved with one
transmitter alone.

One example of this was the old pre-WW2 BBC Droitwich long-wave transmitter
site, on 200 kHz. It used 4 Marconi 200kW transmitters with a common drive
unit, and a huge output combiner, to obtain 800kW to the antenna. The
station is still on the air, on 198 kHz, with 1MW and a simpler transmitter
configuration.

I am sure that pairs of IC-7800's and IC-R9500's with receiving diversity
combiners are in service in "all manner of interesting places". Oh, forgot
to mention, none of these sites use A1A emissions any longer.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Is that the same as the AF does with its log periodics and stations located
in Japan , Puerto Rico , Hawaii , Greenland , Accension Isle Africa and
other parts of the world just on a smaller scale ? Randy N5WV
