ACTUALLY, it comes apart by holding the case and pushing the battery holder
out the top with your fingers. Then you remove the old batteries by hand and
replace them. Someone had put alkaline batteries in instead of rechargeables
and they had corroded.
I found the manual for the battery case at Mods.dk
