[ICOM] Backup ICOM Radio

Hi Dick:

I agree with Adam. The IC-756PROII and above are great rigs.

My suggestion is, don't compromise your backup rig.
Bide you time and save your greenbacks.

BTW:

Unless you are willing to wait a little longer so you can "up the Annie", also scratch the IC-775DSP (predecessor to the
IC-765/IC-781) from your list. If it is worth its salt it is going to cost you between 2200 to 2500 loaded with the rack handles,
all the filters and the InRad roofing filter mod.

The non-DSP unit which is the IC-775 will go for around 1700-1800 or so.

You will get all the bells and whistles with it. Dual Watch, ect ect and it is one of the few rigs left whereby you get the best of
both worlds.

You get the DSP for noise reduction and you get the classic Crystal filters all working together in harmony. Or you can turn off the
DSP on the front panel. Which I sometimes do when working DX just to get a feel of the "old days again".

Here are some quick numbers from the QST review in 1996:

Receiver Dynamic Testing

 Minimum discernible signal
(noise floor) with 500-Hz IF filters:

Preamp off Preamp 1 on Preamp 2 on*
1.0 MHz -131 dBm -131 dBm n/a
3.5 MHz -139 dBm -143 dBm n/a
14 MHz -138 dBm -143 dBm n/a
28 MHz -137 dBm -141 dBm -145 dBm

Yes I have one and yes it is all they say it is and more and NO mine is not and as far as I feel right now never will be for sale. I
considered selling it about two months ago and chickened out.

So I guess they will prey it from my fingers. Hi Hi
