Other than WD-40 NOT being a lubricant, it works. How long, dunno. The WD
in WD-40 stands for Water Displacer. Eventually it turns to gum as the
solvent evaporates. Also - the propellant is highly flammable, so be
careful there too. Our company does not allow WD-40 around any switch-gear.
I would recommend a good lubricant. Try some Tri-Flow - oil with PTFE. Or
if you can find it, lube the shaft lightly with Super-Lube. Super Lube is a
silicone-base PTFE grease. I use it on my competition and self-defense
weapons. It lubes well, withstands heat, and does not collect dust. In
fact - my son uses it on his sniper rifle. He was decorated for over 200
combat missions last tour. Guess you can't get a more glowing report than
that. If it is good enough for a combat sniper, it should hold up well for
even the fastest ICOM tuners available! <grin>
