The three SM-6's I've seen have all had a problem
with RF pick up. Two were real bad, and seem to
have gotten that way after a few years of use. (?)
In all cases the shack had excessive RF floating
around because of the way the operator(s) had the
antenna wires and tuner arranged. In one case the
antenna was too close to the transceiver. Best to
run the SM-6 high, and run the rig's mic gain low,
and on my 751A and 738 the COMP, if not
over done, helps a lot. It appears the RF does its
damage in the Mic, so bypassing the audio leads at
the transceiver doesn't help much.
