Was it really an upgrade though?  I don't know because I have never used
one, but everyone seems to like the 735, and unfortunately the 728 didn't
have a built in keyer.  And I think it was more limited on filtering
options, correct?  And how does its synthesizer compare with the current
models?

Weren't all HF/6 radios at that time limited to 10 watts on 6, except for
the Kenwood TS690?  And the 575H and FT650 did 100 watts on 6, but they
really aren't HF/6 radios, unless you think HF ends at 12 meters.  You don't
see many Icom 726s for sale either, but it looks like the 725/726 series
wasn't anything to write home about.  Was the 707 a good improvement?
