[ICOM] PBT Mod and questions

I don't know much about the original dispute or
whom it was with. It just was not talked about within the company.
I do know we had to be real careful talking about
the 751A as PBT was jumper change to enable.
Delivery of the 735 never stopped neither did the
781. The 781 PBT was Icom's own design. I suspect
some agreement was made about the PBT in the 735.

The 751A and the 75 series had PBT removed so the
products could remain in the product line while
the dispute ran through the litigation process. The 761 was discontinued.
The 761 was replaced in 1989 shortly after I
arrived at Icom with the 765. The 765 was never
designed with PBT in mind, though there have been
mods that get it close to the PBT design and function.
I don't know how the resolution was worked out
but quite a few of Icom's products now have the Twin PBT design.
I think the 75 series PBT reinstall requires not
only the control but the filter as well.

This is similar to the Uniden scan circuit law
suit. Uniden sued a few companies over that and
the R1 got their attention at the time.
Uniden through various company and product line
acquisitors held most all patents of receiver
scanning circuits at that time and likely still
does. They sued over circuit design infringement.
I always thought some of the reason Icom did not
do banking and other features some of the police
scanners had, was due to Look and Feel of other manufacturers products.
I am sure they wanted no part of further litigation.
More to that what meets the eye in manufacturing electronic products.

On another note I am going to install my antenna
mount on my new RAV4 and hopefully get the
706MKII reinstalled in the vehicle over the next week or so.
The mount is for the HS-1800/Pro antenna and will
be bolted on the side of a 2 inch receiver hitch.
