I would say the perfect rig would include:
1. True dual receive-different bands, different modes, different bandwidths in each receiver, if you like
2. 6 meters-every HF rig should be required to include this great band
3. Bandscope
4. Built in autotuner, CW memory keyer, and voicekeyer
5. DSP filters with crystal roofing filters
6. Ability to send and receive RTTY just by plugging in a keyboard
7. Noise blanker that actually works on multiple noise sources, like power line noise.
That is a good start, at least

>John, What is it for you that makes a rig perfect? Give me a list if you don't mind. And, what type of operating will you do with the perfect radio?

>Based on the features I would like in the "perfect rig" the Icom 7800 seems to fall into that category. Can anyone that has used or owned one confirm that it is the perfect rig?

>The 756PRO I got in recently is as close to perfect as I have owned so far.
