If the buttons are engraved, go to a craft store and find a white grease
pencil. Rub the pencil over the engraving to fill in the unfilled portions.
Take a white tissue paper and wipe it down. The result is a clean readable
button.
We did this at Collins on many projects during the engineering phase and
also advised the users of the "stuff" to do this exact procedure.
When the button is wiped down, you wind up with a clean very readable button
that can be easily cleaned again by just wiping it down.
