Des and all: Most amateur auto tuners these days have a matching capability of 3.5:1 or less. This can be over come in many instances by utilizing a 1:4 balun or transformer to extend the range. One excellent antenna I would recommend that you could use for multiband operation with your AT-500, is a 135 foot center fed antenna using open wire line or ladder line feeders. near the shack end, install a 1:4 balun, and then use a short run of 50 Ohm cable to pass through the wall etc to the tuner inside the shack. You will then have a very efficient multiband antenna system. Larry K4LXV.
