[ICOM] Help needed with noise on HF in the mobile

I have my IIg in my 2000 Pontiac GP GT. The body is mounted in the trunk and remoted to the lower center dash area. My noise was S-8. Looking at the way things were grounded (or lack of it) I found some stray brass strip from my days at Collins in Cedar Rapids. Using a metal wire brush, I cleaned the exhaust tips on both exhausts. Purchased some SS exhaust clamps for this use also. Ran the brass strips (which were 1.5" wide) from the exhaust tips to the frame made the noise drop to S-2.

The radio is mounted on an aluminum plate in the trunk. The 13.8V feed runs to the back onto the plate through a Sprague Hi-Pass mounted on a bracket. The cap has screws on both sides and on both sides I have .001 and .01 caps to ground via terminals. I then decided I would ground the plate to the frame via a flexible braid (about 1.5" wide) about 9" long to frame ground.

At the moment, My noise is S-1 to S-2. That I can live with. Since yours is mounted on the front, you might consider straps on the hood to frame ground. Try the exhaust pipe also, as mine was insulated via rubber bushings for sound deadening.
