[ICOM] 746 low receive on 2

I wonder if anyone else on the list has had this
problem.  I picked up a746 locally a few days ago, and
it worked fine on 2 meters a few weeks ago, as I have
worked the previous owner on it.  It hasn't been
modded in any way, and I just went over to 2 meters
yesterday to make a QSO with the previous owner of the
rig for the CQVHF contest (he has a 746PRO now) and
noticed that the band sounded really quiet, and I
couldn't hear him.  I did try it on some local
repeaters, and I could hear them, but they were very
light and not moving the S meter-they are normally
full scale.  So it does receive on 2, just not very
well.  I haven't noticed any problems on any other
bands.  It is doing just fine on 6 meters.

Any idea what is going one, and how to fix it?  I do
have the preamp turned on, and it is transmitting fine
on 2m, and putting out 100 watts.  The antenna system
is ok, as I hooked up a 706MKII to it, and that worked
fine.
