[ICOM] Question abt 746 pro and G5RV combo

Not too surprised here in reading this.  The G5RV is a dipole that requires 
a tuner and the internal tuners with nearly all the manufacturers require an 
SWR of roughly 3:1 or better.  The G5RV under the right conditions can be 
much worse than this.

The G5RV as an all bander has been over sold and certainly over hyped.  It 
is a dipole fed with coax and ladder line and not much more than that.  The 
intent is to get a reasonable performance with a lower SWR than you'd 
normally see with straight ladder line.    There is no black magic to that 
antenna.
