Hi Hart,

You will be better off upgrading your transceiver (perhaps by trading up
from the 706.) A general-purpose receiver is not necessarily optimised for
the amateur bands. A transceiver will also eliminate the need for an
external transmit/receive relay, which is required when using a separate
transmitter and receiver.
