[ICOM] IC-765 compared to a PRO-III

I bought a IC-765 and put every mod identified on the net in to this puppy.

I replaced the PLL caps and did a complete alignment. Two of the major mods
were the Inrad roofing filter and the second 1.8Khz filter enabled by using
the 250Hz CW switch. I also replaced the 2.4Khz Icom filter with the 2.1Khz
Inrad.

I also purchased a SGC DSP Speaker - love this thing!

On several occasions I compared the Pro III to the 765 to see if I could
come close to the Pro III in pulling out a weak signal in a crowded band. In
some cases (~4 out of 5) it appears the modified 765 with no DSP (well
accept the SGC Speaker) beat the PRO III.


This has been a fun project I thought I would share this experience with
this esteemed group. Now if I can figure out how to put a big block Chevy in
it :>))
