I have both the 718 and 706 MK II G. I love the 706 and use it mobile. Personally I do not like the small platform radios for shack use. Great for mobile but too small for use in the shack. 718 is an adequate radio and as stated you should be able to get new dsp equipped 718 and a cw filter for about 650 US. Boils down to your personal preferences. 

Question for masses: Is it just my computer or do some of the postings come in "wide" where you have to scroll horzionallity to read?????
