[ICOM] Output power of my 706

Chris,

Thanks for the tip. I always welcome learning something new.

You must have better batteries than I've used in the past.

I've used batteries for "mobile power boosters" wherein I had them connected
in parallel with a cigarette lighter power source (10 ampere rating) to
re-charge them between SSB transmissions during VHF rover contesting. I
can't remember ever seeing a voltage during transmit of over 13 volts that
lasted for more than several seconds.

I was using a low internal-resistance 21 ampere-hour battery intended for
UPS service.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,

My station runs entirely on solar power and batteries, and has for
years. My batteries never drop that low. They usually stay at
13.1VDC.

If Steve's battery voltage is dropping that low then he is probably
exceeding the recommended / maximum discharge rate for his
battery(ies), or in other words, it's undersized for the job at hand.

I run an Icom IC725, 100w HF rig on 2 12v 110aH batteries in parallel.
The rig pulls 1a in receive and 20a in transmit.
