[ICOM] IC-761 trimmers

Hi all,

Got a question to people having practical experience in replacing PLL
trimmer capacitors in the IC-761 (or similar).

The matter is, I tried to replace them myself. Having the box partially
disassembled I found out, the trimmers are installed under a shielding cover
firmly soldered on to the PLL board at several places and waxed along.
Besides, there is another flat shield repeating the cover shape soldered to
the bottom of the board at several places, too. Apparently it is not that
easy to remove all the covers to get an access to the trimmers. And it won't
be easy to install them back afterwards... Therefore I've got a few
questions to experienced people.

--- Is it in principle possible to do this procedure at home? Maybe I have
to look for a dealer having necessary equipment to do so?

--- Am I just too scared by that and the procedure is not that complicated,
just some know-how is only missing? If so, how to approach it better? Should
I simply start trying to unsolder the whole covers point by point, or
perhaps the shield's top cover can be unsoldered from the side walls?

--- Anything else?

TIA,

73,

Vladimir VE3IAE
