[ICOM] Kinda ICOM Question!

Fellow ICOM'ers:
I don't post to the reflector very often so I hope
you will allow me this one, which is not exactly an
ICOM question. I am using an ICOM 706 mk 2 (g) in
my mobile and I use the Hustler mobile antennas.
I am using the HUstler Model RM-30 on 30 meters and
the specs on the antenna say it is good for 400 watts
SSB! That said to me that it should be good for at
least 100 watts on CW. I tried it this morning on
30 meter CW, tuned the antenna to 1:1 SWR with my MFJ
Analyzer and set the power on the 706 to 60 watts.
I got into a QSO with K7NA and after a couple of
minutes noticed that the SWR crept up to 5:1. I
quickly signed off and felt the coil. It was almost
too hot to touch. The antenna is mounted on a Hustler
Mag Mount on top of the roof away from all
obstructions. I can't understand why this happens?
Maybe Newtronics should rethink the way they advertise
their specs on antennas. When they say "400 watts"
SSB, what does that really mean? I am sorry to bother
such a distinguished group of technical experts, but
I would appreciate any observations anyone has had
with this same thing?
Many thanks, in advance!
