[ICOM] AH-2 Controller

The AH-2 controller had a cable that connected to the CI-V to place
the radio into a continuous carrier mode. I don't remember but I
think it placed the 735 into FM.

The AH-2, AH-3 and AH-4 tuners always required the power output to be
throttled back down to 10 watts for tuning purposes. That ALC signal
is in the 7 pin din connector coming from the tuner controller for
the AH-2 system. The little extra cable was for connecting the CI-V control.

The AH-2 would never plug directly into the 730, 740, 751, 751A. You
could connect it with the OPC-118 which would allow you to adjust the
ALC coming from the AH-2 controller so the 730 etc would drop to 10
watts out. But you would have to place the radio into AM mode
manually. The controller will pull the PTT low causing the radio to
transmit when the tune button is pressed.

I did tell several while working at Icom.using the UX-14 in the 751,
751A would allow the AH-2 controller to place the 751 into a carrier
mode and allow the AH-2 controller to control the 751 /A like the 735.

There are a few differences between the AH-2 tuner and the AH-3
subtle though. The marine versions, AT-120, AT-130 the timing was
different. I have an AT-120 modified to work like an AH-2. When
unmodified the tune control on the 706MKII would not shut the tuner off.
The AH-4 covers 80 through 6 meters on a long wire of 23 feet or
longer. All the amateur tuners have a small memory function. The AH-2
had 8 memories and would tune quickly when the SWR was close to a good match..

I do not remember any Military purpose for the AH-2B antenna element.
With that being said so many Icom products are made and many never
hit the USA its possible that was in mind of the designers or they
copied a military whip antenna for amateur use.

Yes if you can find an AH-2 controller you could then use the AH-4
with it on the IC-735.
