Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info.

Chris, there are a lot of hams using rice boxes on AM. Don't know why you
would have any problem with AM contacts.
All of my home QTH AM is with home brew or vintage equipment
However, I use a rice box when mobile. I have a IC-706 MIIG in my car and I
did have a Kenwood TS-480 HX in my truck. I sold the TS-480 and bought the
IC-7000.

The 706 works just fine on AM. The 480 transmitter was OK, however the
receiver was rather poor on AM. I played around with the IC-7000 at the
local HRO Store and was so impressed with the receiver I bought one on the
spot. Of course, HRO does not have the rigs set up to operate their
transmitters (at least by customers). As a result I found out about the AM
Mod problem after I had installed the rig.

So, looks like I traded one problem for another. Hi Hi

At least with a transmitter mod problem, if ICOM does nothing, I can always
home brew an AM transmitter (a final and a modulator) using the 7000 to
drive it. I am better off with the 7000 vs. the 480.

73,
Larry K3JRR
