Larry,
Kuni Okuma of Comtek, Paulsbo, WA, is the one to give a call to if all else fails. He did almost all of the 2KL repairs while he was at Icom and I think he still does many for Icom as a contractor.
I have no clue right now as to why it does not operate 240 VAC. You might ask Kuni is how the transformer taps were originally connected. If you are the 2nd owner of the 2KL could be another changed those connections. If you are the original owener it could be the power supply was for a different country.
We never had to touch the transformer connections to operate on 240, just had to move the strap so the primary windings were in series across the 240VAC line.
