This is a most interesting comment. I have not bought a NEW radio in over
10 years. I have bought several used, including band-modules for my IC-901A
and 3 IC-W32As for the family. I have never been burned or disappointed.
Realistically, you will NEVER be the first person to push the power button
and see it light up for the first time. Not unless you work for the
manufacturer. In that respect, ALL radios are used to some extent when you
get them out of the box.
OTOH, a radio that had a previous owner does have one advantage. There is
little chance of infantile mortality. In other words, those radios that die
in the first moments are weeded out by this time.
I will soon be selling an IC-28H. Almost new condition, used mostly for
packet, and that not much. Somebody is going to get a real clean classic.
But I freely admit, it is USED!
