You know, I've had a 746pro for a year or so, and it's worked flawlessly.

As I understand it, the driver transistor was too small in the first few 
produced,
and they all blew (as did the 703's) . But once they got that fixed, it was 
a good
rig.

Personally, i find the filters to be a bit sloppy. I have a TS2000 and also 
a TS850 and either runs circles around the 746, but then I only work cw and 
PSK31.

I think people worry too much about serial numbers. Suppose you would if
you were buying it used. I learned a long time ago that the old image of the
honest ham has long disappeared!!! I only buy new stuff.
