This kind of question is always tough, Ed.
I've always thought my 706 mk2g does FB on 440.
You need to be ready for hear some questions from the
group that may insult your intelligence - please don't
be offended - only good intentions here.
First - are you sure the antenna (for the 706)is
resonant and the feed line is good? Can you plug the
HT into the antenna you are using for the 706 to
verify this?
Forgive me for asking this one - (since you can't even
hear the repeater??) are you sure the ant is plugged
into the correct ant connection.
Here's a good experiment: using your friends 706 or
the HT, program one of the radios to receive on the
repeaters input freq and tx on its output. Does that
work? that is, can you have a QSO between your radio
and the "repeater programmed" radio?
Can you key ANY repeater with the 706? Are you sure
you are sending the right PL?
so.. there probably isn't anything you haven't tried
here but - bottom line: ought'a work good.
best of luck...73
