[ICOM] Assistance Needed

Generally, that is correct. It depends on the rig and amp.
Easy way to find the answer...just measure voltage and current at the relay
terminals on the amp. Then, flip through the owner's manual of the rig and
see how close to the limit you are!
I know the Heath amps relays have a lot more juice across them then the
Drake amps do! I keyed an L7 with my 850 without a problem (although I have
been told not to!!!) but I chose to use a relay to key the same amp with my
PRO.
By the way....all sorts of fancy boxes to do the keying...I just used a
cheap 2 dollar relay from Rat Shack....I skipped all the back emf diodes
etc. It has been working fine for many years!
....Dave
PS...use an analog vom on the volts setting...stick it in the relay terminal
of the amp. There is the voltage...switch to amps, jab it in the relay
terminal...the amp will key, and you will be reading the current. I know I
don't need to include this procedure (shouldn't anyway) but I have been
asked MANY times..."how do I measure the relay E and I?" !!
