Hi Marty,
I am surprised that you had good results with the
Heil. I am selling my Goldline because it didn't make
the grade. Used it on Ten-Tec Omni (Ten-Tec mike is
better), and Pro II (stock hand mike is better).
My opinion (and that of many others, but by no means
all) is that Heil is more hype than not. That said, my
son's Heil works as advertised on his Kenwood rig. My
experience is that the Heil in wide mike position is
virtually useless.
Results seem to be mixed. This may be due in part to
voice characteristics. A friend is using an Orion. He
decided to get the Heil supposedly designed for that
radio, but it sounded like crap (not just my opinion)
and with the Ten-Tec 706 mike three of us here though
his audio was the best we have ever heard. Go figure.
Another factor in audio is in the ear of the listener.
It also depends in part on settings both at the XMTR
and at the RCVR. Listen to the audiophile guys. They
never stop trying nor do they ever get it right.
Finally, I also know people who use Heil headsets with
mike and are quite happy with them. To each his own. I
have made my decision for my self and will live with
it. I appreciate the input I have received.
