Hi Malcolm,
For the 775(DSP), the ELEC-KEY jack on the front panel is typically used for
paddles that connect to the internal electronic keyer. However, you can
disable the internal keyer in the ELECSET menu item called PADLE (values are
OFF, N, or R). The you can use a straight key, or connection to an external
keyer, a "bug", or other form of single-circuit contact.
The KEY jack on the back panel is for single circuit connections also, but
not for paddles.
CAUTION: When connecting any single-circuit device, such as a straight key,
to the front panel wire only to the "tip" and "sleeve" contacts. Do not
connect the "ring" as this will cause constant keying when the rig is in CW
mode and the internal keyer is enabled.
