[ICOM] IC-701 wreck please

The best way to fix one of these (holds for IC-22S, and
other Icom synthesized rigs of that vintage) is to drill the
holes out SLIGHTLY and insert through-the-board
eyelets such as those made by Pace and other companies.
Then, when you reinsert the components and resolder
them, the eyelet, component and traces all are solid.

Another method which SOMETIMES works for awhile, is
to use excess leads trimmed from capacitors, resistors, etc.
About 3/4 inch is about right. Make a right angle bend
in the lead. Put the long part into the hole, soldering the
short, bent part to the trace. Turn board over, bend the
remaining part of the lead down to the eyelet/trace and
trim it to fit. Then solder that to the trace. That MAY
work and may not. Also, this "cheap and dirty" trick may
decide to go defective on its own eventually.

Don,
That is the problem with the one I have thrown back. I've been told
by an ex-Icom tech that the problem is usually the plate through holes on
the synthsizer board. They crack, and loose conductivity. He told me
just resoldiering them solved the problem in most the radio's he
repaired. I've not had time to try it on my radio.
