You also have more filter options with the 706MKIIG, and they are easier to
install. You can also fool the software into letting you use the narrow CW
filter on the digital modes that use USB. Don't think you can do that on
the 718. And you get 6 meters on the 706MKIIG!!! You can probably tell
that 6 is my favorite band. For the same price as a new 706MKIIG, you could
also get a used 746, and have a little money left over for filters. You
would also get a much better receiver, passband tuning, better DSP and a
built in tuner, plus 100 watts on 2 meters.
