Subject: [ICOM] Mobile Mount?

Hello:
I am trying to mount a small rig in my Honda Civic and there is no
good place to put it under the dash! I am looking at a Motorola gooseneck
type mount that can be bolted to the floor or transmission tunnel, the
problem is it is only 8" long. Anyone else run into trouble or have some
ideas on what to use? I am sure the Motorola mount is top quality and
costs about $28.
Thanks

I don't have a Honda Civic, so please forgive me if this is of no help.

I have a Ford Aspire in which I mounted an IC 706 MK II. There was no room
to mount it under the passenger dash, or on the dash. The Aspire has a
divider between the driver and front seat passenger in which there is the
AC, Heating and Radio. Between the seats are the gear shift and the
emergency brake so no joy there either. What I finally did was to mount the
radio on the right hand side of the center divider. It is only a piece of
vinyl so I used lots of screws. Better would have been to use a plate on
the reverse side of the mounting bracket and nuts and bolts, but I could not
get behind it due to the AC.

The radio appears to take up room, but I have asked every passenger who has
been in the seat if the radio is in the way. Everyone tells me that they
barely notice it is there and it doesn't bother them at all.

The radio is turned sideways as opposed to being vertical or flat, its
normal position if sitting on the desk. SO I have to look at it sideways. I
was lucky enough to be able to set it back far enough that when the seat is
pulled fully forward, it just touches the dial of the radio. Of course, I
don't leave the seat all the way forward.

I was beginning to believe I would have to get the remote mounting kit, but
even then, there is no place to install the face of the rig.

Now my problem is finding a place for my power wires to be brought in from
the battery. I am using number 6 fine strand wire and there are no holes
suitable in the firewall. A friend suggested I drill a hole in the hump and
pull the wires in from there. This freezing weather froze our installation
until it is warm enough to work under the car again. Lol.

Good luck, I know the feeling. It took me three days of examination and
consideration before I decided on this sideways mount. I wish I could show
you a diagram or picture.
