[ICOM] Original 706 no HF output

Hello to all,

I have been asking some questions about the original 706 lately and now I
have another one.  I wonder if someone can help or has seen this problem
before.

My 706 that I have had now for a few years has suddenly stopped full
transmit output on HF.  6 metres is still OK and most of the bands show
between 20 to 40 watts on 100 watt modes.

40 metres show virtually no output at all.

Even though there is no output, current draw is extremely high to the point
of stalling a 25 amp power supply.  So there is something gone wrong and I
ask for help if anyone who has experience with this model can give me a few
clues of where to look.

My initial thoughts are something wrong in the final bandpass switching
somewhere.
