[ICOM] Best antenna for 706 mobile?

I use the High Sierra HS-1500 (superseded by the
HS-1800) with my IC-706 Mk II. It gives continuous
tuning from 3.5 - 30 MHz with a 2 meter whip and
no need for a tuner at all. You can take the whip
off and operate on 40 through 6 meters. I tune
the antenna to give maximum noise, and then use
the SWR scale on the 706 to fine tune for minimum
reflected power. I have worked many countries
while driving around in Oklahoma. It works very
well and the best thing is that I don't have to get
out of the truck to change band or frequency!

Good luck in whatever you choose.

The AH-4 plus a long whip is a very comfortable solution, just hit 'tune'
and
you are ready to go. I have installed the AH-4 outside, under the car, very
close to the whip base. See pictures and some reports here:

Other very nice mobile antenna is the High Sierra HS-1800. A cheap solution
are hamsticks, although you have to change the antennas for each band.
