I find that beacons are a better indicator of some type of opening. TV's
also can't detect auroral conditions. As the cycle starts to swing up,
and MUF starts to climb, it may never reach to Channel 2 (54 MHz). If you
live near a large airport, incoming arrivals or outgoing departures with
large planes can cause ghosting or multiple images very similar to what
you see when the band is open or trying to open.
A TV in a ham rig begs the question, what's the value for the majority of
hams. We buy rigs to play radio not to watch TV.
