Hi Tony,

Did you set the [EXCITER] switch on the PW1 to 1&2? If you did not, pins 7
on ACC 1 and ACC 2 are bridged. When you applied your external 12V supply,
it probably tried to push current into the IC-746Pro, and blew the radio's
internal fuse. (PW1 User Manual, p. 4, 7 - 9.) In addition, the SEND 2 input
(RCA jack and ACC2 pin 3) is switched through to the PW1's keying circuit
only if the [EXCITER] switch is set to 1&2.

The TS-940S ALC input should interface correctly with the PW1. Of course,
the TS-940S will not be able to bandswitch the PW1, unless you place a band
data/CI-V converter such as the MicroHam unit between the 940 and the PW1.

I hope this is helpful.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Subject: [ICOM] Re: Icom PW-1

Fellow Hams,

I am the new owner of a PW-1 amplifier that has a few challenges in trying
to figure out. I have been successful in getting my Icom 746 pro married to
the PW-1 but have not been successful with my Kenwood TS-940S/AT. The
Kenwood has a 7 pin connector where pin 6 is the ALC and Pin 4 is the relay.
I connected with RCA jacks for the PW-1 at the respective pin connections
and when attached received no response.
The PW-1 manual also indicated that 13.8v needs to be added to the acc 2
plug in order for the Kenwood to activate the antenna system of the PW-1.
Well Well - the Kenwood has no 13.8v output so I used a 12V supply that is
tied into the Kenwood when turned on. Surprise - when activated the it blew
the fuse in the Icom 746 Pro. and of course shut down everything.
So what is the correct procedure to connect a second non-icom rig like mine
without further troubles.
I certainly don't want to damage this expensive toy.
Another question - can both rigs be on at the same time? Personally I feel
the PW-1 manual is poorly written at best. I would like to have a little
more detail than what they have provided.

Anyway - any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
