What sort of CI-V interface are you using, John? Many of these interfaces
are powered by one or both modem control signals, in which case you must
configure your transceiver control software to assert RTS, DTR, or both. You
must also set the transceiver control software to the correct baud rate
(matching the setting in your radio's menu) and CI-V address (taken from the
radio's manual). Word length should be set to 8, stop bits to 2, and parity
to "none".

There's a wide variety of available CI-V interfaces; check out the reviews
on www.eham.net . You can also build one for a few bucks worth of parts.

Commander will control your 706 and your 718; in fact, you can connect both
radios to your CI-V interface, and Commander will switch between them either
automatically based on frequency, or with a single mouse click. Commander is
free, and available via http://dxlab.ky1v.com/Info/download.htm .

Subject: [ICOM] Computer control of Icom 718 and 706MKIIG

Would like help controlling my Icom 718 and 706MKIIG
with a Computer. If you have done this, I would like
advice from you regardind hardware and software. I
need help with setting the settings in the menus of
the radios and making the computer and radio talk to
each other.

I have them hooked up but can't get the computer and
the transceiver to talk to each other and let the
computer control the radio.

I may need a different interface. Any spares out there
that will work? thanks and 73, John, K5PGW
