[ICOM] PRO/PRO2 vs. 775DSP

Hi Earl,

Many thanks for the listing. As I have no 160m or 80m antenna, I cannot
comment on 160m performance; I can confirm your findings for the Icom "Pro"
series on other bands (40 through 10m). Have you tried out an IC-7800?

The fact that the 756Pro3 and Pro2 score higher in your list than the 746Pro
ties in with the fact that the ADC used in the 756Pro models has approx. 8
dB more dynamic range than the one fitted to the 746Pro.

I have not evaluated the Elecraft K2, but have heard many good things about
it.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Lots of talk in this thread about how receivers compare.

As a 160-meter DXer, I've compared a lot of receivers in an effort to find
the "best" for my purpose. My comparison tests were straightforward. I
would do an on-air A/B test of the receivers by seeing which would perform
best in digging extremely weak CW signals out of the noise on both 160m and
10m. The antenna would be quick-switched between rigs during the tests.
FWIW, here are the results, from best to
worst:

 1) Elecraft K2 with KDSP2
 2) Icom IC-756Pro3
 3) Icom IC-756Pro2
 4) Icom IC-746Pro
 5) Yaesu FT-1000MP w/ INRAD front-end mod
 6) Kenwood TS-870S
 7) Kenwood TS-830S
 8) Yaesu FT-1000D
 9) Icom IC-775DSP
10) Icom IC-746
11) Kenwood TS-850S
12) Ten Tec Omni 6+
13) Ten Tec Orion
